I’m so glad you asked that question!
If you are not already aware, Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction & relaxation that also promotes holistic healing via channeling life force energy (Ki) from a higher power (Rei). Still not sure? Simply put, Reiki is the transmission of healing energy through the practitioner to the client. It is non religious, non-denominational, and is not the practitioner’s energy.
Reiki sessions treat the whole person, are generally 45-60 mins in duration, are guaranteed to leave you feeling relaxed, centered, and with an overall sense of well-being.
When we are relaxed, have an overall sense of well-being, and are centered our parasympathetic nervous system is activated. The parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) controls homeostasis, the body at rest, and is responsible for the body's "rest and digest" function. When we are able to properly digest our food, we absorb more nutrients which gives us more energy!
In contrast when we are in a state of high stress, our sympathetic nervous system (SNS) is activated. The SNS controls the body's responses to a perceived threat, and is responsible for the "fight or flight" response. When we are in a state of stress, or “fight or flight” our bodies redistribute all resources to this function which means we are not properly digesting our food. Therefore, nutrients are being flushed out before they have any chance of absorption. You’ve got it - no absorption equals no energy!
Therefore, Reiki at the very least will help with digestion by facilitating the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system! However, a relaxed state is not the only benefit of Reiki!
